What is your favorite part about being a Florist?
My favourite part of being a florist: Wow, a tough one. I like the adrenaline rush of making so many beautiful arrangements, sometimes at unbelievable speed, because of deadlines. I love the positive feedback from a job well done. I love the tears of joy and the smiles and hugs from happy customers and I love the actual designing I do from morning until close. I love the fact that everyday and every order is a little different.
What makes your work unique? Why should couples hire you?
What makes my work unique? It starts with understanding the principles & elements of design. the ability to listen to what the customer wants, and the wisdom to steer them in a direction that creates the look and feel without unnecessary expense and the ability to make flowers come to life in design.
What is your favorite flower and/or style (modern, classic, natural, glam) and why?
I am asked what my favourite flower and or style would be a lot. One of the reasons I don’t tire of my work is my appreciation of all flowers, from Birds of Paradise, leucadendron and cymbidium orchids, to roses, hydrangeas and lilies. Timeless beauty of classic bouquets to modern wow designs, from natural garden style to sophisticated upscale designs. I think of floral product like a painter thinks of his paint and canvas.
What is the creative process like? How do you work with couples to bring their vision to life?
Listen, Listen, Listen . Then we go to our coolers and start playing with flowers. With so much information and pictures available online, most couples have a pretty good starting point when they come in.
What trends when it comes to wedding flowers are you seeing among Maritime weddings lately?
Lots of color seems to be coming back. Vintage, romantic look popular, as well as more stylized designs like the cascade and crescent shaped bouquets.
What is your favorite thing about weddings in The Maritimes?
Favourite thing about doing weddings in the Maritimes is getting to work with generations of family. I would also add that loving where we can go outside to be inspired by nature is a big plus.
What tips or advice can you give to couples who are ordering their wedding flowers
Spend time together, bookmarking pictures of “looks and ideas, styles and colour combinations”. Don’t get stuck on specific flowers, but if you really like one particular flowers, choose your wedding date accordingly. Order your flowers from someone you trust to put their heart into your special day and sell you what you really want. Flowers are like people, all a little different. With a creative hand, your vision will come to life. Most of all enjoy and have fun!
