This Fredericton-based photographer is a firm believer in the power of capturing the real connection between couples. In the words of Renee, “real connection between a couple is what I believe makes a photo timeless. When you look at a photograph you should remember not only the moment but the feeling you had and that is what my job is, to create beautiful images that remind you of the love you share.” Her goal is to capture the joy, laughter and your own love story and turn it into memories that you will cherish for years and years after your wedding day.

Tell us about your company and how you got started.
I am a wedding and portrait photographer based in Fredericton, New Brunswick and I am passionate about documenting love stories for joyful, happy couples in love. When I first started out in photography it was a hobby, I am also a substitute teacher so photography was just something fun I was dabbling in on my days off. For years I did portrait session for family and friends then a coworker asked me to shoot her wedding. I fell in love with wedding photography and working with couples. Over the past couple years I have photographed several more weddings and gradually my business began to develop. This year I will be documenting thirteen weddings and I could not be more excited and grateful be capturing the love between all of these amazing couples on their wedding days!
What makes your work unique? Why should couples hire you?
I strive to capture connection. Real connection between a couple is what I believe makes a photo timeless. When you look at a photograph you should remember not only the moment but the feeling you had and that is what my job is, to create beautiful images that remind you of the love you share. I am truly invested in serving my couples, not just on their wedding day but also as they plan. I am always happy to give suggestions when needed and guide them so they can truly experience their day with their loved ones and still get the most out of their photography.
What is your ideal client like?
My ideal clients are couples in love who are stoked to be getting married. I am inspired by laid back couples who enjoy being together, they love to laugh and fun. They also value their wedding photography but more importantly they really value their marriage. Their photographs do not just serve as a reminder of their beautiful day but also of the incredible commitment they made to one another.
How do you describe your shooting style? Are you laid back or aggressive? Do you tell the whole story of the day?
I love to tell the story of the day! I take a lifestyle approach so I will step back and capture moments as they unfold but I will also style and direct when needed. For me, this approach creates the perfect combination of beautiful emotional candid moments and timeless portraits.
How do you make Brides and Grooms feel relaxed in front of the camera?
I love to have brides and grooms experience working with me before their wedding day so they know what to expect. I include a complimentary engagement session in all of my wedding collections. This provides the opportunity for the couple to be in front of my camera in a relaxed setting.
One of the first things many couples will say when we meet for their engagement session is that they don’t know what to do or how to pose. I tell them I expect nothing from them but to be willing to have a good time and they can leave the rest up to me- this helps takes the pressure off. I am thrilled if clients have ideas or input. Most, however, feel comfortable because I will direct them.
What trends when it comes to wedding photography are you seeing among Maritime couples lately?
There are more couples that are opting for a first look. Often wedding days are so busy that this gives the couple that special, quiet moment together. I also have a lot of couples who really love a fun group photo of everyone who attended the wedding.
What is your favorite thing about weddings in The Maritimes?
One of my favourite things about weddings in the Maritimes is the people. Maritimers tend to be laid back people who just want to have a good time and celebrate their day with all of those who are important to them. I also love that we have four very distinct seasons in the Maritimes. This creates so many beautiful options for amazing scenery.
Which wedding venues in The Maritimes do you love and why?
I have really enjoyed photographing weddings at Kingswood Lodge. The staff have always been really great and the venue is beautiful and charming. I also love an outdoor wedding. If it is by a lake or some sort of body of water, even better! I love the natural light, the fresh air, and the beautiful scenery as a backdrop to the couple’s beautiful day.
What tips or advice can you give to couples who are looking to book their wedding photographer?
You are going to spend more time on your wedding day with you photographer than any other vendor so it is so important to make sure they are the right fit for you. You want to enjoy being around that person and also make sure that their style matches what you are looking for. Not every photographer is for everybody and that is okay. Find someone who has a portfolio with a style you love, a personality that you get and is a person that you trust to capture your memories. Someone who has experience shooting weddings is also extremely valuable.
