MORE ABOUT MOLLY
Tell us about your company and how you got started?
Molly Ilse Photography all started when I was 15 years old. I had always been a very creative child, and when I started working with a camera, I knew I had finally found my niche. I started with taking photos of friends, which quickly changed into clients hiring me for small portrait sessions, which turned into couples asking me to photograph their small weddings, and professionals asking to second shoot with them. With every wedding, I fell more and more in love with creating a business and creating beautiful images. Five years later, I am full-time wedding photographer, traveling all over Canada to capture beautiful couples, and absolutely loving it.
What makes your work unique? Why should couples hire you?
I love to incorporate the couple’s style and personality into my images, while still adding my own artistic touch. I take pride in knowing that I will produce gorgeous, emotion-filled images for each of my couples. I love to help my clients out every step of the way, and I love to take any stress of their shoulders by helping them find locations, vendors, ideas, etc. Anything they need, I am there for them. My couples can walk into their sessions knowing I will do all the work for them, they just have to listen to my direction and be their adorable selves!
What is your ideal client like?
My ideal client is the crazystupidinlove couples, the couples that are looking to celebrate their happiness with a gorgeous wedding day, the couples who are surrounded by loved ones, the couples who can’t stop giggling. I am so lucky to have so many different clients, but no matter what, there’s one constant with every couple: they are so freakin’ happy and in love, and they want their wedding day to be a simple reflection of those emotions.
How do you describe your shooting style? Are you laid back or aggressive? Do you tell the whole story of the day?
My shooting style can be described in two words: laughter & sunshine. I just love getting my couples giggling while I’m photographing them. I love working in the location given to find the best sunlight. I love producing real images from real moments.
I bring a very relaxed and positive vibe to all my sessions and wedding days. I take pride in being a “fly on the wall” during the ceremony, first look, reception, etc, but also being able to bring an upbeat vibe to the formals. I shoot very lifestyle, meaning I don’t pose my couples very much I simply guide them to where they need to be, and I love to encourage them to do their own thing in front of the camera with little guidance from me.
How do you make Brides and Grooms feel relaxed in front of the camera?
Being in front of the camera can be so uncomfortable! I get it, which is why I like to work closely with my couples before the wedding day. I try to meet all my couples for coffee at least once, and I encourage an engagement session so we can get used to working together. I love to tell corny jokes while I’m shooting, and get my couples moving and interacting to help ease their nerves.
What trends when it comes to wedding photography are you seeing among Maritime couples lately?
I love that backyard weddings are becoming a more popular choice for Maritime weddings! So many people have such gorgeous backyard areas, and it makes for a more intimate, laidback feel. Apart from backyard weddings, I love that couples are choosing the “all-in-one” venues, the venues that provide space for the getting ready, ceremony, formals, and reception! It takes a lot of stress off of couples, because they have one spot to do everything, instead of 3+ locations, and can enjoy their day without worrying about any travel.
What is your favorite thing about weddings in The Maritimes?
Hands down, my favorite thing is our beautiful scenery. Seriously, we have the best locations! From beautiful beaches, to gorgeous fields, to our never ending forests. There’s just so many areas to work with, and so many spots that make for killer photos.
Which wedding venues in The Maritimes do you love and why?
I adore the Magnetic Hill Winery, and I recently stumbled upon a new favorite Blueberry Hill Farms. Not to mention, any areas in Wolfville, NS are perfect to me!
What tips or advice can you give to couples who are looking to book their wedding photographer?
Booking a wedding photographer can be so confusing for couples, there’s so much to choose from! I always recommend finding a photographer that you get along with, and someone who produces work that you adore. Not only that, find someone who has everything set in place for any situation; back up, contracts, policies, etc.
