MORE ABOUT CHERA & MATTHEW
Tell us about your company and how you got started.
Matt and I started photographing wedding 1o years ago. Newly engaged and madly in love, we started photographing our friends’ weddings and what was a little side business during our university years became our career and we have been doing it ever since.
What makes your work unique? Why should couples hire you?
There are two of us and we are both capable shooters with our own style that coalesces into a beautiful and timeless coverage of your day. Chera is artistic and all heart. She loves to capture the emotion and love story of your day using the softest and the most beautiful romantic natural light as possible and Matthew is talented and technical: a Macgyver of flash photography. He is the one that has perfected the dramatic sky shot we have become known for. Also, he finds background perfection for all of our images and his quiet personality allows him to capture many of the photojournalistic moments of the day effortlessly.
What is your ideal client like?
Our brides are breathtaking. They are of different styles. Some like moon mist ice cream and some like vanilla. Some wear Louboutin and some go barefoot. Each. One. Is. Stunning. Our couples love passionately whether they bottle it up just for their own private moments or whether they dance in the aisle at Sobeys. They are undeniably, butterfly in her tummy, his hand always finding its way to hers, in love. Each of our weddings has a story-a heartbeat. Shutter-click by shutter-click we get more excited because our craft is to stencil beauty and outline the connection of two incredible people.
Our ideal client is over the moon in love; they steal smiles with each other and are always giving a reassuring hand squeeze or sneaking a kiss. They are laid-back and go with the flow. They are up for anything and just love to chase light with us. They also, usually have a really lovely relationship with their families and their wedding speeches and that of their family’s don’t leave a dry eye in the house.
How do you describe your shooting style? Are you laid back or aggressive? Do you tell the whole story of the day?
We are laid back and love to tell the story of the day. Chera loves to set everyone at ease and makes an amazing connection with the couple and wedding party. She loves letting things just unfold naturally but she can also give guidance for posing and she keeps things light and fun and flowing along. Matt is quiet and photographs things as they occur like a stealthy photo ninja.
How do you make Brides and Grooms feel relaxed in front of the camera?
We don’t leave them hanging. They aren’t off alone left to wonder whether or not they are standing the right way or doing the right thing. We guide the couple to a beautiful location, beautiful light, and give them instructions or a pose and then let it fall into a natural moment. We keep the photo time light and Chera likes to chat and joke keeping things fun, getting natural smiles and laughs.
What trends when it comes to wedding photography are you seeing among Maritime couples lately?
We are seeing a lot of lace, also rose gold, gold and blush are still popular. Lately, bouquets are getting a bit more loose and whimsical with lots of different whisps and variation in flowers creating a really pretty mix of botanical textures.
What is your favorite thing about weddings in The Maritimes?
I love the people of The Maritimes-so warm, and welcoming. I love being near the oceanfront with the stunningly beautiful sunsets and shores, PEI (yes the whole province!!, the place is photographic gold), and getting to see such different landscapes, evergreen woods, red rocks, high tides, the valley in Nova Scotia, the friendly cities, and the vast style and cultures from a full jazz band in Fredericton to a kitchen party in Cape Breton. We are always in for a fun party during Maritime receptions.
Which wedding venues in The Maritimes do you love and why?
We love Kingswood Lodge in Fredericton New Brunswick. When we’re shooting there the window lighting allows a beautiful sunset glow on the guests during the meal that just makes it a dream to photograph.
We fell in love with the Richibucto River Resort this year as it has a gorgeous grounds, rustic ambiance and delectable food.

Favorite wedding flower?
I (Chera) am a sucker for peonies!!
Favorite first dance song you’ve heard?
An amazing original song that one of our grooms composed for his bride just for the wedding day! But since that one is taken, we likes the acoustic cover version, “I’m Gonna Be” (500 miles) by Sleeping at Last.
