Let’s get real for a minute. Every engaged couple wants to host the best wedding ever. Sure, at the end of the day your wedding is about celebrating your love and marriage but if we’re honest it’s also about hosting a great party. Am I right? Part of that is really wowing your guests which means you might need to think outside-the-box when it comes to wedding entertainment. These 6 reception ideas will have your guests talking about your wedding long after the last glass of bubbly!
1. Bonfires and Fireworks
It doesn’t matter how old you get, there’s always something magical about fire and fireworks so it’s not surprising that they are very popular for weddings.
When planning your wedding you want to think the entire guest experience through and take measures to ensure their comfort and safety. Firstly, if you feel that fireworks and bonfires needs to be a part of your wedding day, make sure you choose a venue that allows them. Check out any restrictions on times and locations and definitely ask if your venue works with any recommended suppliers. This is an area that you will want to leave to the professionals. A great way to make sure guests safely make their way to the bonfire is to light the way to the outside area with strings of lights or lanterns and wrap tree trunks in more lights or suspend them between branches to create our own outdoor venue. Don’t forget to leave blankets or wraps so guests can stay warm as the temperature drops.
I love the idea of pairing a bonfire with a s’more station. Your family and friends will love sitting around the fire talking about the day’s events while sipping a warm beverage and roasting marshmallows!

There’s something so special when you have your friends and family surrounding you when you have your first dance or leave your party but why not make it extra special with sparklers? There are awesome extra-long length sparklers so you’ll have plenty of time to take to the dancefloor or say your goodbyes as your guests provide a gorgeous sparkling backdrop to a very memorable wedding day.
3. Lawn Games
Lawn games are perfect for a summer wedding. They are inexpensive, adorable, keep both kids and adults entertained while you’re getting photos taken, and are great photo ops! You can buy lots of croquet and Bocce Ball sets at Canadian Tire or Walmart, but you can also make your own custom corn hole boards, giant Jenga, or washer toss. Looking for a more vintage look without the DIY? I love that you can rent the most adorable lawn games from Fredericton’s The Wedding Shed. From lawn Yatzee, to tic-tac-toe, to beanbag toss they’ve got several lawn games to entertain every guest.
To make your lawn games successful, make adorable signage with instructions on how to play the games like in the photos below. If you’ve got a game that needs further instruction, assign a friend or family member to assist with that area to help guests describe game rules and help them retrieve things like beanbags or horse shoes.

Tasting stations are becoming more and more popular for weddings for good reason. They are fun for your wedding guests because they allow guests to sample foods that they otherwise might never have tasted, and they get everyone mixing and mingling. From whiskey to wine, craft beer to tequila. Be sure to hire a sommelier to walk your guests through each drink sample.

Nothing screams a party like a piñata. I’m not talking about the donkey or the latest cartoon character shaped pinatas (come on, have a bit more faith in me!). I’m talking about a piñata that is designed to complement your wedding. The possibilities are almost endless: choose your wedding colors, style it after your wedding cake, your engagement ring, match it to your theme, etc. Piñatas make great photo ops and are a great way to loosen up your wedding guests before the dance floor opens.
Fill it up with mini liquor bottles, noise makers, glow in the dark necklaces, glow sticks, temporary tattoos, and of course, lots and lots of candy! It’s a sure fire way to liven up any laid-back style of wedding.

6. Live Event Artist
See your wedding through the eyes of an artist. A live event artist will capture your wedding day on canvas as it unfolds. The best part? When the night is done, you’ll go home with an incredible keepsake of your wedding. Check out Epic 22 or Live Art from Nimja, both in The Maritimes and ready to create a unique, customized painting of your ceremony or reception. Both entertainment and a valuable keepsake!
