It began as a hobby about 6 years ago taking photos of friends and family. But over time, it transformed into Sharlie Faye Photography. Now, 4+ years later, Sharlie is still in love with that light that first ignited her passion for photography. Sharlie’s love for The Maritimes is only surpassed by her love for the joy and emotions of a wedding day! Her heart for these special moments helps her capture them beautifully and authentically. Sharlie’s biggest passions are photography and serving people well, so I have no doubt she’ll make your wedding day extra special, capturing beautiful images along the way!

Tell us about your company and how you got started.
What started out as a hobby about 6 years ago quickly turned into a passion that couldn’t be ignored. Taking photos of friends and family turned into photographing friends of friends, then finally into people I didn’t know contacting me for portrait sessions, weddings, etc. I got my first wedding in the summer of 2012. My business started growing and when I moved to Moncton about 2 years ago, that’s when it really boomed. I went to school at Mckenzie College for Photography and when I graduated in 2015, I had about 5 weddings of my own that year. This year, I have 19 and it feels absolutely incredible to have made it this far.
What makes your work unique? Why should couples hire you?
When a client first contacts me, it’s usually about prices. After we have passed that point, that’s when the fun starts. I want to know everything; why they are choosing me, what they like and what they expect from me. All of my work is very personalized to each individual who hires me and that’s what makes it unique.
What is your ideal client like?
My ideal client is someone who is a fan of my work and doesn’t book me based on my prices. My prices don’t define my work, the quality does. Prices shouldn’t matter if you are getting exactly what you want in the finished outcome. 95% of clients start out as clients but finish as friends. The minute that they contact me is the minute that we start building a bond and this is why my clients leave happy. Anyone who knows me knows that money was never a factor in this. I do what I love and it makes me happy.
How do you describe your shooting style? Are you laid back or aggressive? Do you tell the whole story of the day?
As much as I would like to say that I am laid back, it is actually the opposite. Coming into a wedding day, I know what I want and what my clients want. My job is to capture the moment but it’s also to capture the feeling. My photos express that.
How do you make Brides and Grooms feel relaxed in front of the camera?
I let them do their own thing. Be in love, be so obsessed with each other that they forget I am even there. It’s so easy because they make their own photos. I am simply there to capture it.
What trends when it comes to wedding photography are you seeing among Maritime couples lately?
Everyone wants the same thing. Pinterest is a HUGE factor in wedding planning now a days. You almost can’t plan a wedding without Pinterest and it makes it hard when so many brides want the same exact things. That’s why doing my research is also important because I can bring my opinion to the table and add new ideas.
What is your favorite thing about weddings in The Maritimes?
Locations. We have the most beautiful locations in the Maritimes. Fields, ranches, mountains, water, beaches. We have everything and its something that a lot of people take for granted.
Which wedding venues in The Maritimes do you love and why?
Richibucto River resort has to be my favourite. It is spectacular. The view, the venue and just the location itself makes you feel like you are on a getaway and doesn’t feel like work.
What tips or advice can you give to couples who are looking to book their wedding photographer?
Do your research, read reviews and most importantly; get to know your photographer. The more you get to know them, the greater of a bond you create and you both will be on the same level and love the outcome.
