MORE ABOUT CAITLYN
Tell us about your company and how you got started.
I’ve always been a huge fan of art in many forms and I’ve always felt like I’m at my happiest when I am creating something. I fell in love with photography in High School. A few years after graduating when I still didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life I decided to enroll in a college Photography program. I ended up doing a work term with a wedding photographer and loved the idea of telling other people’s stories for a living. So now I do!
What makes your work unique? Why should couples hire you?
My love of storytelling. Every wedding is different and I see things that most people wouldn’t normally stop to notice. I’m super stealthy. I also genuinely want my client’s to be present and have an AMAZING day. Their happiness is just as important to me as the photographs are. I make sure to let them be themselves and feel as comfortable as they can be with a stranger following them around all day with a camera.
What is your ideal client like?
My ideal clients are people who appreciate the small moments just as much as the big ones. I love clients who realize that the absolute most important part of their wedding day is each other and celebrating their love with their friends and family. I love to work with people who trust me and know how important it is for me to not only capture the details but to also capture the emotion and moments that are much more important. It also doesn’t hurt if they’re funny, easy going and love dogs.
How do you describe your shooting style? Are you laid back or aggressive? Do you tell the whole story of the day?
I’m super easy going. When I’m shooting candidly I am quiet, calm and I love to fade into the background. I think it’s the best way to capture sincere, real moments. I also appreciate the timeline of a wedding day and I definitely know how to direct and make sure everything goes smoothly! It’s a balance but it’s an important one when you have a couple’s wedding day in your hands.
How do you make couples feel relaxed in front of the camera?
I hate being in front of the camera so I understand what it’s like to be uncomfortable. I’ve always found that a sense of humor and a laid back approach works better than anything. A good mix of providing really good direction and not taking it too seriously is my favorite approach. Oh, and making fun of myself.
What trends when it comes to wedding photography are you seeing among Maritime couples lately?
Weddings are getting smaller and cooler! Couples are realizing that they don’t have to follow tradition and they can create a wedding day that is as unique as they are. I’ve photographed so many intimate weddings in relaxed locations and I absolutely love it.
What is your favorite thing about weddings in The Maritimes?
The people are what make weddings in the Maritimes so great. Everyone is always so welcoming! I also love that my job allows me to travel and experience places in my own province that I may have never seen otherwise. There’s so much beauty to experience on the east coast and I get paid to explore it!
Which wedding venues in The Maritimes do you love and why?
I love venues with a lot of character and that offer outdoor ceremonies and a relaxed environment.
Oceanstone Seaside Resort is definitely one of my favourite places to photograph a wedding! It’s rustic but beautiful and the staff is great.
Mersey River Chalets is an absolute dream. The sound of the river and a ceremony in the woods…amazing.
However, the best places to shoot a wedding for me are ones that are special to the couple. A family cottage, his grandparent’s backyard, their favourite beach…you get the idea!
What tips or advice can you give to couples who are looking to book their wedding photographer?
Know what kind of experience you want to have and choose someone who’s work and shooting style you absolutely love. It’s so important that you do your research and choose a photographer not solely based on price. An experienced photographer knows how to shoot and create great images in ANY environment. Ask to see a couple full wedding galleries so that you know exactly what you would be getting.
If you can, meet with a photographer you’re considering! It’s important to hire someone you feel comfortable around. Oh, and start looking early! The experienced photographers will book up fast.

Favorite wedding flower?
Wildflowers! Even if they’re picked straight from your Mom’s garden on the day of.
Favorite first dance song you’ve heard?
I had a couple who danced to a medley of cheesy theme songs from movies like ‘Take My Breath Away’ from Topgun and ‘I’ve Had The Time of My Life’ from Dirty Dancing. I’m a huge fan of anything out of the norm or hilarious.
