MORE ABOUT MAG
Tell us about your company and how you got started.
I am a portrait and wedding photographer based in Fredericton, NB, but shoot all over the Maritimes and beyond. I fell in love with photography while in grad school and it was something I couldn’t shake. I left grad school, started my own business and here I am!
What makes your work unique? Why should couples hire you?
There are so many amazing wedding photographers out there and I am a firm believer that when choosing one, you should 1) like their work and 2) click with them as a person. What sets my business apart from others? The answer is myself as an individual. We as photographers all have different experiences and characteristics that make our work our own. I always recommend finding a photographer you relate to as a person in addition to liking their work. If that person is me, great! If it isn’t, then that is cool too! I want nothing more than for my clients to relax the day of the wedding and feel more like we are friends than someone they just hired to do a job.
What is your ideal client like?
My ideal client is fairly laid-back. I love to work with couples that are just generally soooo excited to be getting married to their spouse. I am all about the love. My ideal client values the emotions over details. Don’t get me wrong, I will photograph the details, but my priority is capturing the story and emotions of the wedding day.
How do you describe your shooting style? Are you laid back or aggressive? Do you tell the whole story of the day?
I would say I am very laid back and hands off except when I am needed to step up and keep things on track time-wise. I am more about letting natural moments occur and trying to create a space for those natural moments to occur than trying to recreate images from Pinterest. I love to tell the story of the whole day from getting ready to the reception party.
How do you make couples feel relaxed in front of the camera?
I think there are a few different things you can do as a photographer to help couples relax. This goes along with the laid-back style, but I always try to be as relaxed as possibly while shooting. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes we are on a major time crunch and I am sweating bullets, but I always try to manifest the persona that everything is under control and there is nothing to worry about. This allows the couple to relax a bit more and know that everything is on track.
Secondly, which goes along with an answer above, is that I talk to them throughout the session. Silence, even though it is not intended to be, can be interpreted in many ways. I am trying to converse with my clients and remind them that they are doing amazing just by being themselves.
Lastly, an engagement session can go a long way to helping couples relax on the day of the wedding. It gives couples a chance to get to now their photographer, as well as know how their photographer works and what they will expect.
What trends when it comes to wedding photography are you seeing among Maritime couples lately?
Backyard weddings! I am seeing more and more of this and I am loving it! More relaxed gatherings with friends and family that take place on a relative or friend’s property.
What is your favorite thing about weddings in The Maritimes?
The people! I get to work with so many amazing couples, but also their friends, families and guests. I am a firm believer that here in The Maritimes we have some of the friendliest and kindest people in the world. Also, Maritimers know how to throw a good party.
Which wedding venues in The Maritimes do you love and why?
Besides backyard weddings, I love outdoor weddings or out of city venues the most. Some of my favorites include Country Lane (Salisbury) and Kelly Hill Farm (outside of Fredericton). These venues have amazing properties where you can take photos, as well as amazing owners that go out of their way to make sure everything is taken care of.
What tips or advice can you give to couples who are looking to book their wedding photographer?
Firstly, book early. Most photographers are booked usually more than a year in advance. Choose someone whose work you have researched and whose style you like. There are so many unique voices in wedding photography, so choose someone who you could see telling the story of your day.

Favorite wedding flower?
One of my clients made all of her flowers out of fabric and lace, which was pretty awesome. So can I answer fabric and lace?
Favorite first dance song you’ve heard?
I don’t remember the exact song, but earlier this year I had a wedding where the bride’s grandfather and groom’s grandmother played piano and sang the song for the first dance. It was so beautiful.
