MORE ABOUT CHANTAL
Tell us about your company and how you got started.
Throughout my life, I drew and painted watercolor on every surface I could find. As I grew older, this slowly grew into a passion of understanding light. The more I researched the more I wanted to know about light and photography. Around 5 years ago, I purchased my first DSLR camera and never looked back.
What makes your work unique? Why should couples hire you?
What I feel makes my work unique is my versatility and commitment to capture the entire day! I love capturing all moments of the day from getting ready, the pretty details, tonnes of candids of each and every guest, and even night time images!
Couples that should hire me are couples who want a full wedding day experience and want to remember how truly happy they felt on their wedding day.
What is your ideal client like?
The clients I love are the type who love to be adventurous, love to have fun all done with a sense of style. The images I make for my couples are a direct reflection of my relationship with each and every couple I work with.
How do you describe your shooting style? Are you laid back or aggressive? Do you tell the whole story of the day?
My shooting style is self “directed candid” with a whole lot of fun involved. I will direct couples to where the light is best and work with them loosely from there. I believe the moments in between the moments are where you make the best captures. The real smiles and laughs are what I live for.
How do you make couples feel relaxed in front of the camera?
I love to make people laugh. I believe in the power of authenticity and connection. A lot of time when we are shooting we are having so much fun that people forget to be nervous.
I also work with couples months in advance to ensure every detail of the day is covered. I have a questionnaire which I use as my shooting guide for the day. I ask about everything from special family heirlooms to if fireworks are planned for the evening. After the couple and I have worked on this document together, I know we are both confident that their day is going to be captured just as we both envision!
What trends when it comes to wedding photography are you seeing among Maritime couples lately?
One thing I love about photography is how much it grows and changes year to year. I’m seeing a number of things different this year.
More couples are…
– having more loose bouquets and centerpieces.
– Doing images before the ceremony to maximize time at their own wedding!
– Also, couples who aren’t afraid to rock an additional ten minutes after supper for a little something special.
