I fell in love with photography while in high school. I definitely had doubts if it was something that I could turn into a career, but ultimately I decided to give it a try and attended NSCC for three years (Applied Arts + Photography).
After graduating from college in 2011, I decided if I was going to go for it full-time, then I should just do it! I started out assisting many talented photographers here in Halifax, gaining experience in the industry. Not long after, I was able to go out on my own and have been photographing weddings full-time ever since. I fell in love with weddings and storytelling through images.
What makes your work unique? Why should couples hire you?
My style is a mix of candid and naturally posed images. I strive to really get to know my clients and make a connection with them. Storytelling is such a big part of what I offer. Wedding days are full of beautiful moments, big and small and I take pride in being able to document them in an artistic way. I love capturing images that will be cherished for many years to come.
What is your ideal client like?
My ideal clients are couples who are hoping to document real moments, real emotion, real life. Couples who appreciate what is most important – which is celebrating with their close family and friends. I love to work with couples who just want to have fun on their wedding day, celebrate and truly enjoy the entire experience!
How do you describe your shooting style? Are you laid back or aggressive? Do you tell the whole story of the day?
I definitely have a more laid back approach and shooting style. Of course there are moments within a wedding day when direction is needed, but for the remainder of the day I really love to step back and capture the entire story. From getting ready to late into the evening. The in between moments. The joy, the laughter, the tears, the awkward dance moves, the happiness, the anticipation. The real stuff.
How do you make couples feel relaxed in front of the camera?
To be honest, I’m not sure what I do! But i’ve been told that my bubbly personality seems to put most people at ease. I’m pretty easy going so I think that helps couples feel more comfortable from the start. I like to get to know them as a couple & chatting about them really seems to help with the nerves. But I think making couples laugh is key. That’s when you are able to capture a true version of them as a couple.
What trends when it comes to wedding photography are you seeing among Maritime couples lately?
I’m finding many couples are opting for less traditional weddings. (Which I LOVE!) Whether that is a first look, elopement, a smaller more intimate wedding or a unique setting or location. Do what makes your heart happy. If you want to say your vows to each other before the ceremony – do it! If you want a blue dress – why not? If you want to elope and get married by the ocean, just the two of you – go for it!
What is your favorite thing about weddings in The Maritimes?
I love everything about weddings in The Maritimes! I love the relaxed vibe and of course the stunning views we have. I never grow tired of photographing the amazing landscapes we have right here at home. Every summer I get to explore new corners of the Maritimes that I didn’t even know existed.
Which wedding venues in The Maritimes do you love and why?
There are so many that I love! To just name a few – Oceanstone Seaside Resort is definitely my favourite here in Nova Scotia. Quaint cottages, good food and the ocean – what more do you need?! A few of my other favourites are Pictou Lodge, Hubbard’s Barn & Fox Harb’r Resort. Within Halifax – a couple of my favourites are Lot Six and The Prince George Hotel. All are fantastic locations.
What tips or advice can you give to couples who are looking to book their wedding photographer?
I think the best advice I can give is to start by finding a style of photography that suits you as a couple best. Every wedding photographer has a different editing style and shooting perspective. Pinpoint exactly what style you love and go from there! Just as important – make sure you feel comfortable and at ease with your photographer. Personality is such an important thing to consider. Out of all of your wedding vendors, wedding photographers are with you for the majority of the day. Don’t be afraid to meet with a few photographers to find the best fit for you!

Favorite wedding flower?
I honestly don’t have a favourite! I love them all, but I do especially love wildflowers.
Favorite first dance song you’ve heard?
I actually don’t think I have one! I love each song a couple chooses for their first dance because I can see how special it is to them. It’s one of my favourite parts of a wedding to photograph.
