Prepping for a wedding is a lot like prepping for a marathon-it can be mentally, physically, and emotional draining. But…don’t forget that it should be fun-not spiral you into despair.
If you start to lose your cool there are a few things you can do to avoid joining the bridezilla club. From giving yourself regular me time to delegating tasks, I’ve got some suggestions for how to relax and regroup while planning your wedding.
So kick up those heels, cuddle up under your favorite blanket and check out my top 5 ways to reduce stress while wedding planning.
1. Go on a date
Take a break from all the pre-wedding parties and planning and head out on a date with your spouse-to-be. With all of the excitement pre-wedding, take time to reconnect with one another and remind yourself of the real reason for this wedding-the start of your future together. Just be sure to talk about anything but your wedding.
2. Hang with your friends
Take time to plan time with your friends. Bring your friends together for a fun day pampering, going shopping, heading to your favorite restaurant. It’s a great way to remind your friends how much you cherish your relationships and ease their worry that they’ll never see you again without your hubby at your side.
3. Get it in writing
Listing every thing I need to get done is my go-to trick whenever I have a lot on my plate. I find this takes the pressure off of having to keep a mental list running through my head and ensures that I remember everything. Prioritize your tasks making sure that the important items are done first so you’re not scrambling to finish everything.
4. Ask for help
The best tip I have when it comes to planning your wedding is delegation. Choose a task and assign it to someone, especially someone who may have offered you help along the way. Chances are, they’ll say they’re happy to do more in addition to what you’ve asked (as long as you don’t pile your whole to-do list on them).
5. Spend some time alone
Having me-time is important no matter what season of life you’re in. Spend time alone doing whatever it is you like to do to de-stress. Go check out the latest movie in the theatre, treat yourself to a massage, or hit the gym. Spend time planning your wedding is fun, but it’s important to take some time for yourself.
Planning your wedding can have its stressful moments that’s for sure so take time to relax and reflect on what matters most to you: friends, family, you, and of course, what fun! Whether it’s a moment of rest with yourself or happy hour with the girls, every bride needs a couple of ways to step out of the spotlight and enjoy the moment.
